Thursday is market day! What's market day? Well there never used to be a market in the local area, people needed to drive for 20 minutes to Rocha to grab any provisions. Not now though. Every thursday from about half past 3 the local community start to gather at Loubrou. It is a real proper community and family affair, kids playing, people chatting, music on and most importantly, a focal point and regular event for the whole area. Whats for sale? Bread, cake, beer, hot food, a pickup track with the whole trailer full with fruit and veg. The fire was roaring one of the nights and there was a bit of churipan for sale. Churipan=massive sausage, cooked on a fire, served with lettuce and tomato on what can only be described as a morning roll. Delicious! Trading of services and resources seems commonplace. The ducks for instance, the ones that turned up one night, unexpected and when our hosts Alvaro and Olga were out. I would hazard a guess that was a market day deal. The beer for sale came about from a chance encounter between Alvero and the owner of a brewery. Their I.P.A at 7.6% is a personal favourite of mine. Thursdays at Loubrou were the highlight of the week and something we can all look back fondly on. Lorne
